The Cosmic Spiral is a symbol that informs much of my work. Found in the history of almost every culture, from cave art to stone sculpture, the spiral speaks of continuity, the cycle of birth, growth, death and rebirth - and most significantly - to the connection between all things.
This lovely Bolero Shrug speaks to the Rebirth of Mother Earth, Tara, Gaia - of luminous crystalline light spiralling downward from our Star families in the heavenly Kingdoms of Mother Father God, infusing our beloved planet with the luminosity of hope and possibility. Each stitch, each bead is intended to carry these giftings into the DNA of Mother Earth and all life.
The patterning of the Cosmic spiral is witnessed in all of nature, from leaves growing on a stem, to hurricanes and tornados, in the pattern of seeds in a sunflower, in the growing tips of ferns and the shape of a nautilus shell . . . even as a helix, the shape of the DNA molecule.
This garment has been felted with Angora roving and edged in a union of hand dyed Silk and Merino. The surface embellishment is done entirely by hand in a process involving a hundred or many more hours. This bolero is meant to resemble the forming of the Crystal Garden of the New Earth with its flowing patterns of glass beads, Swarovski Crystals and crystal prayer beads and detailed embroidery from Silk and Metallic flosses.
