Inspired and named by a dear friend who was living with terminal illness. She peacefully transitioned from this world shortly after its completion.
I was deeply impacted by her boundless courage and strength, often in the face of great physical pain, and, of how she moved through the magnitude of her illness with such tenacity and grace. In that final surrender she gave birth to the song of her heart - its melody, texture and beauty utterly transparent and exquisite, carried somehow in this garment. I will forever be grateful for the privilege of knowing her and all she taught me.
When I asked her what I should name this piece, she simply whispered - Odyssey - Call it Odyssey.
And so it is.

In honour of all those with terminal illness and their caregivers.
Spirals are believed to represent movement through experiences in life. The Celts in particular viewed this symbol as one of progressive development, growth and expansion - as we make our journey towards the centre and into the Light of All That Is. The spiral’s centre is the place of spiritual balance where we realize our deep connection to the eternal forces of nature and the entire Cosmos.
This Bolero Shrug is a metaphorical exploration and meditative interpretation of the Sacred Spiral.
