Song of the Heart
This hand felted garment was inspired and named by a dear friend who was living with terminal illness. My friend transitioned from this world shortly after its completion.
I was deeply impacted by her boundless courage and strength, often in the face of great physical pain, and, of how she moved through the all-ness of it with such tenacity and grace. In that final surrender she gave birth to the song of her heart - its melody, texture and beauty utterly transparent and exquisite. I will forever be awed by the privilege of knowing her and by the rare gift of all she taught me.
When I asked her what I should name this piece, she reverently whispered - Odyssey -
And so it is. I see the garment now as an expression of all who journey through any illness.
Nuno-felted hand dyed Merino, Silk and Bamboo over a eco-dyed Scrim( organic cotton gauze). Lovingly surface embellished by hand in a process that encompassed several hundred hours. Seed pods give birth to infinite possibilities as revealed in an odyssey of such proportion. Use of silk and metallic threads offer an ethereal, mystical quality. Many beads were used... glass, vintage prayer beads from many spiritual traditions, including old Rosary and Tibetan prayer beads, Swarovski crystals and seed pearls. The lining is hand stitched with Dupioni silk. Supple wired collar can be scrunched and shaped. Fasteners are hand crafted over silver pins with copper wire, various glass and Swarovski crystal beads.

Honouring our deep connectedness
with our Cosmos
Spirals are believed to represent movement through experiences in life. The Celts in particular viewed this symbol as one of progressive development, growth and expansion - as we make our journey towards the centre and into the Light of All That Is. The spiral’s centre is the place of spiritual balance where we realize our deep connection to the eternal forces of nature and the entire Cosmos.
This Bolero Shrug is a metaphorical exploration and meditative interpretation of the Sacred Spiral.
